Hello friends and family.  Here is another update from SRH.  What a week it has been.  Fall is here and soon enough it will be winter.  We are feeling the pressure to get this cabin done.  We know we have gotten a lot done, but we have a lot more to go.  We talked a little about if we should have gotten here a month earlier, but woulda, coulda, shoulda will not help in this situation.  We are both stubborn people.  Things will get done.  We have some awesome friends that will give us a hand if we need it.

Rain was in the forecast for about half the week.  Tuesday called for rain.  We decided to work on the food forest.  It was a task we could walk away from if the rain did indeed come.  We used to the mower to mulch up the pine needles.  This mulch was added to the herb gardens.  Free soil is always a good thing.  Less I will have to deal with in the spring.  We placed all the plants in the layout we decided on.  The planting will come soon enough.

Wednesday was supposed to be raining in the morning and clear all day.  Needless to say, the forecast was wrong, so we got a day off.  Some video games and lounging with the kitties was good for the soul.

On Thursday, we had to run into town and pick some osb for the walls of the bathroom.  We got a late start, but we managed to get the posts mounted on the piers of the bathroom.  The joints were nailed in and the house wrap for the underbelly was installed.

Friday was time to get serious on the bathroom.  Insulation was added to the floor and was covered with osb.  Next up were the walls.  They were so easy going up, compared to the main part of cabin.  To end the day, we added the rafters. Put us in a good place for Saturday.

On Saturday, our friends Tom and Theresa came down to help out.  Rick and I focused on the bathroom and Tom and Theresa tackled the roof.  They rocked the roof out in no time.  So impressed.  We got the blocking done in the rafters.  We started adding the osb.  We quickly realized that we underestimated the amount of osb we would need.  We at least could finish the roof and get the felt on it.  Unfortunately, the lumber yard is closed on the weekends.  So, all we could do was throw some house wrap up to protect it from the rains coming overnight.  We took Tom and Theresa out to dinner.  It was good to just eat some good food and visit.  We truly appreciate their help and friendship.

I wanted to take a moment and give a huge shout out to my guy.  He dreamed up this cabin.  He drew it all out.  He designed and built all the walls ahead of time.  He compiled lists of all the supplies we would need.  He tried to think of everything for when we got here.  He did a great job.  What we don’t often talk about is the struggles he has.  Some days are good days and he goes out and works.  He takes several breaks because he gets tired.  There are some days he wakes up and is ready to go back to bed.  He tries to function, but he requires a nap.  Some days, he just can’t function, and he needs a lazy day.  Then there is the “stroke brain”, is what we call it.  With that, there are days he is the best he can be.  Some days the computing is harder.  Items get misplaced.  Supply lists are not correct.  The worst part, he beats himself up because of something that is not his fault.  This is our life now.  Yes it sucks, but the alternative is worse.  We get up and face the day together and do the best we can.  These moments are sprinkled into our weeks.  I just don’t bring them up.

Sunday was not supposed to rain, but it rained on and off all day.  We pushed through it and put in the door and the front window.  It was cold and wet, but dang it we needed progress.

Monday, we headed to get the balance of the osb we needed.  We took down the house wrap, and got the walls finished.  The house wrap was put back up.  We installed the window.  Finally, we are all dried in.

Thank you for stopping by our blog.  We look forward to sharing our next projects with you next week.  Take care.
