Moving forward...

Hello All,
Welcome back to the homestead. We have been busy. When we last updated you all, we had a weekend of cold temps. We spent the time in the cabin. We had laundry to fold and take care of, floors to sweep, composting buckets to dump, and dishes that needed done.
Monday rolled around, and we started working on the trees around the cabin. We did not lose any plants in our food forest. That was a relief. We did not baby those things in pots for the last few years just for an ice storm to take them out.
We really wanted to get to the ones on the roof, but there was so much ice. We moved on to the trees by the herb gardens. There was one laying over them. In the back there was three trees leaning really bad. For safety reasons, they needed to come down. Rick needed a nap, so I continued stacking the wood. I had a graceful moment. I was carrying a long log. I tripped over another log. I am so glad that my face did not slam into the log. Needless to say my body hurt for a few days. But the strange thing is, my neck feels better than it has in months. All the chiro care and deep tissue massages did not help give me full range of motion in my neck. Plus I was left with vertigo. Now my neck has full range of motion and the vertigo is mostly gone.
Rick had his first appointment with his cardiologist. We really like him. He fully supported his medicine regiment. He is concerned about his cholesterol and the fact he smokes. He recommended an injection like an epi pen. He will take it every two weeks.
I got a call regarding my mammogram. They are requesting additional screening. With my dense tissue, this is my new normal. I have not gotten the new appointment call yet. I am not worried.
We helped some friends of ours install their woodstove. We brought tools. Rick basically consulted. I helped hand stuff up and got to visit with the ladies.
An exciting thing we got to do was stand up with our friends for their wedding. It was a very small and informal event. A total of 6 people. They held it outside near a local waterfall. I had no idea this place existed. It was a chilly day, but it was a beautiful day. We went to the junkyard dog steakhouse. The couple paid for dinner.
Our next worry was the ice falling off the roof and destroying stuff. We moved the easy up and the generator. We put boards over the diesel heater. Rick got up there a few times and pulled down what he could small chunks at a time.
We were finally able to get the trees off the house. The solar panels were shattered. The rack was a reck. We had one little puncture hole in the roof. We just put a screw in the hole. We have two small sections of the roof banged up. We will replace them in due time. We have extra materials.
The last two days have been georgous. Tshirt weather at 70 degrees. We can focus on our driveway. This will take some time. I did some winter sowing. Rick was running the chainsaw. I was running the woid chipper. We are using the chips to remedies the mud. Oh yes. Got rid of all the snow and ice, now we live in a mud pit.
Tomorrow is a town day. I need to wash laundry. Pick up a package at the post office. Drop off the trash to the transfer station. Top off fuel cans. Refill our water cans. Pick up a few groceries. Sounds fun, don't it? Lol
Plans coming up....finish the drive way area. We are planning some special flower beds. After that, we need to clear more of our woods. We need to make sure if we get another ice storm, we wont have to worry again. Next week, Rick has appointments in Nashville. Getting a more indepth eco and getting established with a new monitoring clinic for his pacemaker/icd. The eco is to establish a base line for the new cardiologist.
Thank you for stopping by our homestead. We appreciate your support. This ice storm set us back, but we are not defeated.
