Rain Delay...sheesh this isn't a baseball game.

Welcome back to the SRH Blog. Fall is definitely here. If you look in the pictures below you will see some of the colors. I snapped a picture on our way to town to run some errands. Hard to get a lot of pictures, because the rain. More about that in a minute.
Sometimes we set goals for ourselves, and other times the weather dictates those goals for us. We knew that we had rain coming up for several days, so we had to get the cabin dried in. When you last seen pics, we had the walls up. That is it. No roof and definitely not a tarp big enough to cover it all. Our amazing friends, Michelle and Mariane, came over several days to lend a hand.
It took a little while to get all the rafters and the blocking up. My guy did an amazing job. I just mostly handed him stuff when he needed it. I got some chores done around the camper. Next came all the toe nailing, rafter ties and strapping. I would be interested to know just how many nails and screws we have in this build. We got the rim joists up to figure out when the two piers for the bathroom would be. We dug them out and poured the concrete. We just let it set.
The ladies came over because it was osb day. Our goal was to get all the walls covered minus the area that would be inside the bathroom. We had to rack one corner of one wall, but other than that, it went up pretty well. The door opening and one of the window openings were cut out. The following day, we put osb on the roof. Once again, my guy had to be the hero. He was a little uneasy at first but found his stride. When you must focus on trying not to cause a dizzy spell and the job at hand, it can be a bit of a challenge. The drip edge and the felt went on the roof. He made quick work of that. He then opened up the last two window openings. It is starting to really look like a home. It was getting later in the day than we wanted, but we had to get the house wrap on. Us four got it up with a few challenges. The angles of the roof line did not help. We sent the ladies home, and we finished the last of the stapling just before we lost our light. That was a close one. The rain would be here in the morning. Well it arrived in the middle of the night, so it was a good thing we got it done. It currently looks like a big white box.
Having rain delays really suck, the good thing about it, it causes us to take some down time. A much-needed rest. Plus, we can tidy up the camper that gets neglected when you are working your tail off. Run those errands that need to be ran; supplies, trash and groceries. Even helping a neighbor.
The cold I thought I was getting only stayed what it was. I took a few home remedies and it did not get any worse. I hurt my ankle one day. It was hurting pretty good, but I had to keep working. I elevated it for the rest of the night and had a good sleep. It was good as new the next day. I did keep it wrapped for two days just in case.
So, there you go folks. Writing and reading this, it seems like it was not much work. We busted out butts. He are proud to say that it took 2 weeks and 2 days from the day we broke ground until the main part of the cabin was dried it. That is pretty good for a bunch of broken bodies coming together to make stuff happen.
What’s next? If we get pockets of time without rain, we will be installing the door, so we can work on electrical and a few other things. Thursday we should be able to get back to building. So, we will be raising up the bathroom and get it all dried in. Rick’s best friend Tom is coming on Saturday. They will be tackling the metal roof and the windows, and what ever else they can get done. If Theresa comes with him, we are going to work on the food forest. I have to get all that in the ground. Our poor plants. If she doesn’t, I will still get as much done as I can. I also have to keep the men folk fed and plenty of water.
Thank you for taking time out of your day to read our blog and to be a part of our adventure. Don’t forget to subscribe. Please feel free to share it with a friend as well. We would be honored to be an inspiration like so many have been for us. Take care.
