Our plan was to visit three sets of friends across the state to explore our options. We began with Carol and Bill in Cumberland County, who are also customers of Cat. They graciously offered their spare room and hospitality, treating us to delicious meals and sightseeing. Our conversations quickly deepened our bond, making them feel like family. While we did look at properties, it proved to be a bit of a nightmare. Our realtor, though pleasant, showed us a first property that was too sloped. A second, ideal property fell through due to a lack of owner financing. Further attempts to find suitable properties were unsuccessful, but the area itself provided enough information for us to move on. We bid farewell to Carol and Bill and headed to our next friends, Lyle and Linda. Lyle was an old coworker of Cat. They welcomed us, allowed us to pitch a tent, and offered valuable advice and engaging conversations. We also had the pleasure of meeting their wonderful children, Nora and Bill, who are also planning a move to Tennessee. We continued our property search, but nothing felt right. However, we did visit the Landstruck office, a company specializing in selling properties of five acres or more with low down payments and owner financing. Our conversation with Glenn was promising, and he encouraged us to contact them when we reached the other side of the state to view properties. While this sounded good, we wanted to exhaust all options. After saying goodbye to Linda and Lyle, we journeyed west. We spent a night at a charming, rustic campground by a pond, which was glorious until the mosquitos emerged, making the night terrible. We then checked two more properties nearby but were put off by the trashed properties of the neighbors. Our next stop was north, to stay with our friends Christy and Wes. Though our time was short, it was incredibly peaceful and enjoyable, with the hummingbirds being a particular highlight. On our last day for property hunting, we met up with Glenn from Landstruck. He took us on a side-by-side tour, showing us one property that just would not work, before revealing some newly available wooded land. After driving by several options, we decided to explore the first wooded property we had seen. Walking through it, we were enchanted. A large, flat, quiet, and beautiful area, it felt like magic. We knew it was the one. We made our down payment, completed our background checks, signed the contract, and the property was ours. The journey continues....
